is a 7

layered Ratha

Prabandham, is

a

type of song,

where the

numbers 1 to 7

are arranged in ascending and then descending order, as

the upper deck

and lower deck of a Chariot, that is

Ratha. The

Poem brings

out the form

of a chariot

through the

number

embedded in

the

prabandham,

hence

Thirumangai

Alwar called

Chitra Kavi

p)Lord in his vibhava avtars gives a special

importance to

number 7, as

Rama he

pierces 7 sala

tress,with

a single arrow

when he shows

his valiant

powers to

Sugreeva

illustrated by

Peyalwar as "Eydhan

Maramaram

Eezhum

Ramanai" and

as Lord Krishna he lifts the Govardhana giri,

consequtively

for 7 days

& 7 nights

to give

protection to

all souls in

Gokulam, from

the anger of

Indra who sent

a storm to

devastate the

place. And

also he

vanquishes the

7 bulls

in order to win

Nappinnai

's hand which is

referred by

Thirumangai

Alwar as "Ezh

Vidai Adanga

Chetrranai"

Viraviya

Velaithanul

his Thirumozhi

q)Among

the 4 works of

Nammalwar,

Thiruvasiriyam

with 7

stanzas

r)Last but not

the least,

there is

reference to 7

births in

our

arulicheyal,

Peyalwar

mentions "Thaveya

nin enja

innaiyadikke

eezh pirappum

aalagi anja

thirukka arul"

here

alwar prays to

emperumaan to

take him under

lord's feet in

all the 7

births to come

& to grace

him. Again

Andal

nacchiyar in

Thiruppavai,

prays for

kainkaryam in

all 7 and more

births to come

as

“Ettraikkum

ezh ezh

piravikkum un

tannodu

uttrome aavom,

unakke naam

aatcheivom. Nammalwar also makes a reference about up and down 7 generations in "kesavar thamar keezh mel emer eezh eezh pirappum" padhigam in Thiruvaimozhi

Thus

Emperumaan alone is our refuge ever for us, we all take

sharnagathi in

the thiruvadi

of emperumaan

reciting the

verses of

Andal, to

grant us

intimate

services/kainkaryams ever

to the lord.
