SrI :
Today , I had a a request from a friend for information about Sri Dhanvantri BhagavAn . The information that I sent him in the context of Pratishtai of the archA of Lord Dhanvantri at Sripuram Srimad Andavan Asramam at Bangalore is enclosed since it might be of interest to many members . there are not many sannidhis for Him except the famous one at Srirangam going back to the 12th century . Srimad Bhagavatam celebrates His avatAram thru 5 slOkams in the section : 8.8.31-35

SrI NaarAyaNeeyam celebrates Him in the tenth slOkam of the 28th Dasakam :

taruNAmBhuda-sundarastadA Thvam nanu dhanvantarirutthitOamBhurASE:

amrutam kalaSE vahan karAbyAmakhilArtim hara MaarutAlayESa

TadA = at that time ( of churning of the Milky Ocean
Thvam = DEvareer
TaruNAmBhusundara: having the dark bluish hue like the clouds in the rainy season ( laden with water)
KalaSE karAbyAm vahan = holding the vessel filled with nectar in Your hand

Dhanvantari = as Lord Dhanvantari
amBhurASE : utthita: = Ypo rose up from the Milky Ocean
MaarutAlayESa = Oh Lord of GuruvAyUr , Sriman naarAyaNa !
akhilArthim hara = Please destroy all kinds of vyAdhis ( Physicala nd Mental).

The summary of the Five slOkams from Srimad BhAgavatam are :

(meaning ): The sons of Kasyapa Rishi ( the devAs and the asurAs) churned the milky ocean at the command of Sriman NarayaNan . At that time a wonderous person arose from the Ocean . He had long and stout hands . He had dark complexion and was youthful . He wore a flower garland as well as many kinds of AbharaNams. He was adorning PeetAmbharam . He had a broad chest and wore KuNDalams with the purest of gems. He had curly and dark tresses . His valor was like a simham . He held on one of His hand the amruta Kalasam and had KankaNam on the wrist of that hand to assure protection from all diseases . As Sriman narayaNan’s amsam , He rose out of the ocean and is worshipped as Lord Dhanvantri , the author of Ayur Vedam . He is entitled to the portion of the Havis offered in Yajn~ams and homams like Sri Sudarsana Homam .

sa vai Bhagavata: sAkshAt VishNOramSAmSa sambhava:
Dhanvantriti-vikhyAtO AyurvEdadhrgijyabhAk
– Srimad BhAgavatam : 8.8.35

There are BheejAksharam based as well as Gaayatri mantram and MahA Manram for Him used for Japam and homams .

The summary of the meaning of the Mahaa mantram for Lord Dhanvantri used during the Sudarsana Homam is :
We offer our prayers to Lord Dhanvantri known as Sudarsana VaasudEva Dhanvantri , who holds the vessel full of the nectar of immortality . He chases away all fears and cures all diseases. He is the wealth for all the three worlds and is its protector. Lord Dhanvantri is an amsam of Lord VishNu empowered to heal the ills of the embodied ones . We bow to the Lord of AyurvEda .
He is our object of worship as Oushada Chakra NaarAyaNan .
