Good question. i will try my level best to answer this question. i will be happy if it gives you satisfaction. Now we will go to the answer.

my answer: ''He who maintains the Shaligrama shila, the Tulasi, and the conch in one place, becomes very dear to Lord Narayana." - Brahma Vaivaarta Purana.

what is saligrama? The Saligram is an extremely sacred stone found in the holy Gandhaki river in the Himalayans. They are considered the same as the Supreme Lord Himself (Bhagavan) and are worshiped throughout temples in India, Nepal and Bangladesh. As per Gautamiya Tantra, near the kali - Gandaki river, there is a big place called Shalagram. The stones which appear in that place are called shalagram shila. According to the Hindu tradition this stone is the shelter for a small insect known as "Vajra-Keeta" that has a diamond tooth which cuts through the Shaligram stone and stays inside it. The Saligram stones are hundreds of million years old when the Himalaya was an ocean floor.

The Shaligrams are specifically described as fossil-stones which have taken shape in the Gandaki-river, and as characterized by the presence of discus marks . The legend, related at length tells us that Gandaki, the lady-devotee, performed penances for longyears, and that she got a boon from Vishnu, which made Vishnu reside in her womb.

Saligrama is usually black in color with the symbol of sudarshana chakra. The chakras can be seen both outside and inside. The marks on the Shaligram gives it a special significance, with the pattern often representing that of Sudarshan Chakra, the Discus of Vishnu. The Shaligrams come in different colours, such as red, blue, yellow, black, greeen. All the varities are considered very sacred. The yellow and golden colour Shaligrams are considered most auspicious and bestow immense wealth and prosperity to the devotee.

Benefits of worshipping Salagrama: The Lord Krishna himself mentions the qualities of Shaligram to 'Yudhishtra' in the Mahabharta. Most of the Shaligrams are considered auspicious, some are very sacred, while others are considered to bring good luck, money, peace, sons and so on. The temples can use any kind of Shaligrams in their rituals. The place where the Shaligram stone is found is itself known by that name and is one of the 108 sacred pilgrimage places for the " Vaishnavas" outside India. In fact such is the auspiciousness of this place that the Puranas mention that any stone from this land is equally sacred to Shaligram.Worship Saligram gives Righteous living, Wealth, Protection, good health, pleasures and Spiritual life.

which saligrama should not keep in house? Anyone can keep sacred saligrama at home. To my knowledge i don't find any reason for not keeping saligrama, but Saligrama is one of the most important Puja items of the Hindus. This is actually a stone worshiped by the Hindus.Saligrama is another name of the Vishnu. Those who daily puja at home can keep saligrama. Saligrama requires daily puja except some occasional days.

which is said to have Ugrashakthi? All saligramas are giving benefits and having power. Many interpreters may come with new findings. This is not required for those who do puja daily. Saligrama keeping at home, doing puja at home will give benefits. He creates the entire variegated universe and then enters into it as the Super soul. Through this means He provides the life force and consciousness of everyone, and, thus, maintains the creation. As Sri Krishna explains, “As the mighty wind, blowing everywhere, always rests in ethereal space, know that in the same manner all beings rest in Me.” Vishnu is the God that helps to maintain the equilibrium between all the planets and whole universe, which ultimately affects our life so worshipping different incarnation of Lord Vishnu in the form of Shaligram stone will help to alleviate the problem.

The Skanda Purana, Padma Purana and other epics, the worshipper of Shree Shaligram knows no fear and is blessed to attain all desirable things, worldly comforts, good wife, good sons, good health, immense wealth, peaceful environment prevails in his surroundings and he gets immense protection against all evil forces. His all anxieties, mental tension goes off and all ambitions are fulfilled Even the water that has just touched the Shaligram becomes Amrit and by drinking it man is relieved of all diseases. Worshipping of Shaligram helps humans to live happy and peaceful life.

Thanks for the opportunity!!!

  • Some guidelines:
The number of Salagrama shilas that you can have is based on the following rule:
If you have one, then it is fine.
Two and three are considered to be inauspicious. Some people think three is ok but according to Late. Sri. U.Ve Melpakkam Narasimhachariar Swami, count of three is also not good.
Count of four is fine. From this point on, the count of shaligramas should be even. i.e 4,6,8,10,12 etc.
If you have 12 Saligramas worshipped in your place, then the place is considered a kshetram.
If in your case (as you may have 2), please do bring 2 more saligramas and add it for thiruvaradhanam.
As you already have two Saligramas, thiruvaradhanam should not be performed for two of them together.
First, one Aradhanam needs to be performed for one murthy. For the other one, again another aradhanam needs to be done. That means, if you have two Saligramas or three Saligramas, you have to do separate thiruvaradhanams for the two or three Saligramas. If you have 1,4,6,8,... then one aradhanam (worship) is suffice for all Saligrama moorthis.
In case if you cannot do thiruvaradhanam for the second Saligrama in detail, you can do lagu Aradhanam for the Second perumal.
