One of the members had a doubt about the Veda and dhiya prabhandha paarAyaNams during the VarshAbdikam . I requested
Bruhaspati Sriman NVS Swamy’s comments on this question . As always , he responded graciously . This might be of interest to a large number of you faced with this dilemma . Bruhaspaty Swamy was kind enough o include the celebrated Paasurams of Swamy NammAzhwAr in this context . I will add the meanings of these paasurams as provided by Dr. V.N.VedAnta Desikan in his ThiruvAimozhi Commentary for an expanded enjoyment of the anubhavam of Swamy NammAzhwAr at the very end of His ThiruvAimozhi .

Dear Sriman VS Swamin,
Purpose of Veda, Divya Prapanda Paarayanam done in Subha Sweekaram
is entirely different from Prthama Apthikam.
This is done as Iyal Ghosti Paarayanam as this Atma is going to Vaikuntam
as a liberated soul and here after which is going to be a Vaikunta Vasi, which is a very very rarest
thing ("Vaikuntathamararum munivarum vyandhanar").
Nammazhvar is describing about how the occasion is celebrated at Vaikuntam while a soul is reaching there
in T.V.Mozhi 10-9 "Suzhvizhumbanimukil"
*சூழ்விசும்பணிமுகில் து}ரியம் முழக்கின
ஆழ்கடலலைதிரை கையெடுத்தாடின
ஏழ்பொழிலும் வளமேந்தியவென்னப்பன்

அந்தமில் பேரின்பத்து அடியரோடிருந்தமை

All celebrations described in this 10 Pasurams are done here as imagining the soul is in the Velli Sombu
and it is taken by the Kartha as Swami Purappadu to come round the agraharam where all the vaishnavites
every house, in the agraharam will pay their respect to that soul and the Azhavar Ghoshti with it.
You can see, the kartha with the sombu will facing towards the Azhvar ghoshti and do backward walk
with the help of somebody.
At every house the will put rangoli (kolam) and place the Manai and do washing the legs of ghoshti with water
and will do haarathi, and pay some sambhavanai also.
Which is a model show done at Bhoolokam when it is really happenning to the soul by the Vaikuntavasis at Vaikuntam.
Now, let us come to Apthikam , Which is purely a Shradhdham.
In every Sri Vaishnavite house Nithya Aaradhanam is to be done in all normal days before taking the food.
In that aaradhanam Shistas will do some yathoktha Aaradhanam (which is done only at Sri Matams and Ashramams) now a days) by chanting Veda Paarayanam and Prapandha Paarayanam as part of the Aaradhanam.
Our elders with great mercy curtailed the portion of chanting as Nithyanusanthanam which should be chanted in every day Aaradhanam. But now this Nithyanu Santhanam only in practice atleast in pithru days in some houses.
It is almost in practice in all houses in the Prathama Apthikam in the Varusha Apthikam day as part of the Bhagavat Aaradhanam.
And, a misguiding is going on without knowing the above fact,
most of the people are thinking that Sevakaalam (which is the term for doing both Vedha, Divya Prabandha Paarayanam) is
done as done at Kainkaryam and which should be done on the next day to Prathama Apthikam which is wrong and meaningless but now which is become popular (to maintain schedule) by making it optional on either of the day.
