Respected devotees of almightyNALAKOOBARA'S CURSE ON RAAVANA.

Yet another curse on raavaNa was given by Nalakoobara, the son of kubEra, RaavaNa's elder brother. Again this reference is in sreemadh raamaayaNam uththara kaaNdam in 26th sargam, as a continuation of sage agasthya telling raama about raavaNa in detail. RaavaNa went to dhEva lokam and gave a fight and conquered the dhEvaas. While returning after achieving victory in dhEva lOkam, he stayed over kailaasam for a while since it was night. Upon staying in a garden in a moon lit night, he saw lot of kinnaraas, singing and enjoying themselves like the kubEraa's place. Immediately because of the moonlight, a good singing, nice garden etc, besides the taste of victory over dhEvaas, raavaNa got into mood of kaamam. At that time, to the garden came a lot of apsaraa sthrees in large numbers, including rambaa, one of the famous apsaraa quartet viz. 'rambaa, oorvasi, menakaa, thiloththamaa'. During this occasion of rambaa coming to that garden, rambaa was proposed in marriage to nalakoobara, the son of kubEra. Since she was betrothed to Nalakoobara, the son of kubEra, rambaa is thus supposed to be raavaNa's daughter in law being elder brother's da [we have already seen in first post that kubEra is son of same sage visravas thru the other wife]. On rambaa's coming to that place see slokam from sreemadh raamaayaNam -- Ethasmin antharE thathra dhivya aabharaNa bhooshithaa sarva apsarOvaraa rambaa poorNa chandhra nibha aananaa
7-26- 14 A good amount of description on physical features of rambaa is given in this sargam in slokams 15 to 18. RaavaNa, while walking amidst this own sainyam €“ army - in his 'kaama mOhitha' mood saw rambaa and desired rambaa and attempted at her saying €“ where are you going oh beauty -- kva gachchasi varaarOhe kaam sidhdhim bhajasE svayam
7-26-21 In this attempt raavaNa also proclaimed who is more special male than me €“ is it vishNu indhra or asvini kumaraas? €“ see slokam €“ madhvisishtah pumaan kah adhya sakrO vishnuh athha asvinou?
7-26-25 [sakrah means indhra.]. perhaps this question of raavaNa to rambaa was the cause of raama appearing as such a beautiful pleasing human being to see €“ priya dharsanah - so that even rishis who have their senses under complete control were also simply knocked down and wanted to embrace raama €“ desired a physical embrace or a union [in that seethaa embracing raama episode €“ after the single handed destruction of 14000 raakshasas in forest €“ in the full grand vision of all these rishis]. [Remember mOhana raama krithi of thyaagaraaja €“ and hari dhaasulu krithi in yamunaa kalyaaNi €“ article by sri M.G.Vasudevan some time back] Even though rambaa pleaded for leaving her since she is supposed to be his daughter in law raavaNa did not leave her. Rambaa says -- suthasya yadhi mE bhaaryaa thathah thvam hi snushaa bhavEh
7-26-31 On this raavaNa says €“ for apsara ladies no question of anyone as her husband and also not only one lady as his wife [yes. It is true what raavaNa says €“ for apsaraa sthrees are supposed to be for all dhEvaas in common, to enjoy and not confined to this husband or that €“ sreemadh bhaagavatham says so - in that amrutha mathanam episode €“ when these apsaraas came out from the milk ocean when it was churned] pathih apsarasaam na asthi na cha Eka sthree parigrahah
7-26-40 She went to nalakoobara and rambaa pleaded to her fiancé. He, that nalakoobara cursed raavaNa saying RaavaNa's head would be shattered to pieces €“ akaamaa thEna yasmaath thvam balaadh bhadhrE pragharshithaa
7-26-54 moordhha thu sapthadhaa thasya sakalee bhavithaa thadhaa
7-26-56 When oh raavaNa you touch any lady when she is not willing to join with you, and you force her, your head will shatter to pieces. On hearing this curse, all dhEvaas including brahmaa were happy - says slokam €“ pithaamaha mukhaascha Eva sarvE dhEvaah praharshithaah
7-26-57 This did happen in the battlefield later when seethaa was lifted and raama's arrows hit raavaNa.
In next post we will see some more curses on raavaNa. with due respects to all devotees of almighty
